POMPOKO MONTHLY DRINK SPECIAL · OCTOBER

This month’s pour.

Every month we hand-pick a featured wine and a Japanese bar drink to enjoy with your ramen. Here’s what we’re pouring this October.

A bottle of Paper Mâché 2024 Rosé beside a glass of rosé

Wine of the Month

Paper Mâché Rosé

$12150ml glass

Riverland, South Australia

Tangy, lip-smacking and bursting with flavour: watermelon juice, blood orange and summer flowers, with a bigger body than the light colour suggests and a dry finish.

The story. Made by Wacky Grape Wine Company, founded by long-time Riverland viticulturist Ashley Ratcliff. The name comes from the idea that simple things become something special when brought together layer by layer. A playful wine with a serious connection to the land.

Nikka Days whisky bottle beside a Nikka highball with lemon, under the Pompoko neon sign

Bar Selection

Nikka Days Highball

$9

Back by popular demand

Our September favourite returns for October. Highballs are one of Japan’s most popular drinks: whisky with plenty of ice and crisp soda. Light, refreshing and easy to drink.

Pairs with ramen, gyoza and karaage.

FROM OUR KITCHEN

“Long queues and sold-out soup every night.”

Our story, on the Gentlemen Noodle years

OUR STORY

From Byron Bay
to Brisbane.

In September 2020, Masa and Koji opened a pop-up ramen restaurant called Gentlemen Noodle at Coorabell Hall, a historic community hall in the beautiful hinterland of Byron Bay, about 10km from town.

At first, we wondered if people would travel that far just for ramen. But from the very first day, the response was incredible.

  1. 2020

    Gentlemen Noodle

Opening once a week, we quickly became known for long queues and sold-out soup every night. With the support of local residents, Japanese friends, and collaborations with local artists and food vendors, Gentlemen Noodle became a special gathering place for the community.

  2. 2021

    Takeaway for our locals

COVID lockdowns forced us to shift to takeaway service for our loyal local supporters.

  3. 2024

    Leaving Coorabell Hall

Although we continued operating for several years, we eventually left Coorabell Hall in 2024.

  4. 2025

    Gentlemen Noodle closes

We closed Gentlemen Noodle in 2025. Even after closing, many people continued to ask when we would open again.

  5. 2026

    Pompoko Ramen & Bar

Now, in 2026, our journey continues in Brisbane with Pompoko Ramen & Bar, operated by Gentlemen Noodle Brisbane Pty Ltd.

THE POMPOKO WAY

Our ramen
philosophy.

Pompoko Ramen & Bar is inspired by our family roots in Japan, where a small, home-style restaurant has been serving simple, honest food for over 20 years. That spirit of warmth, tradition, and care continues here.

Food should be gentle

We believe food should be gentle — nourishing, balanced, and made with intention. Our cooking is guided by respect for natural ingredients, minimal processing, and traditional techniques.

We prepare our dishes the way we would at home: thoughtfully, without unnecessary additives, and with attention to every detail.

Broths that take time

Our ramen is built on broths that take time and patience. We are constantly challenging ourselves to create a clear chicken broth with depth, purity, and balance — a bowl that is clean in appearance yet rich in umami.

Alongside this, we craft our signature broth from dried fish, kombu, dried shiitake mushrooms, and a variety of vegetables, slowly extracted over 36 hours.

Vegetarian, with pride

We also take pride in our vegetarian ramen, made with kombu, beans, house-dried mushrooms, and seasonal vegetables.

The result is a broth that is light yet deeply satisfying — clean, refined, and gentle on the body.

Drinks to match

Alongside our food, we offer a carefully selected range of sake, wine, Japanese gin and whisky, and Japanese beer — chosen to complement the flavours of our dishes and enhance the overall dining experience.

Pompoko Ramen & Bar is a place to slow down, enjoy carefully crafted food and drinks, and share simple moments over ramen and conversation.

FROM OUR TABLES

A little word
of mouth.

Discover what guests, and a few Brisbane food writers, are saying about their visit.

Absolutely loved Pompoko Ramen Coorparoo. The ramen was rich, warming and full of flavour, with perfectly cooked noodles, tender pork, nori and that soft egg doing exactly what a soft egg should do. No notes. … Great food, great vibe, and definitely worth coming back for.

A quaint vibey ramen bar perfect on a cold night … This might be the first time I've had ramen this light and refreshing and it's quickly become one of my favourites around Brisbane.

The hint of yuzu in the yuzu shio ramen complimented the fish broth well. I liked that the soup was clear and not too heavy. The house made pork gyoza was cooked perfectly and the filling was juicy. Staff were very friendly and service was quick. We will be back!
